During the 2024 Hurricane Helene, the historic box tomb and family plot of Patrick Harty, one of Mecklenburg County’s earliest and most respected craftsmen, was damaged and now urgently needs restoration.

Born in Ireland in 1783, Patrick Harty immigrated to the United States in 1820 and became a trusted master mason and plasterer in the growing city of Charlotte. His skilled hands helped build some of the region’s most important early landmarks, including the old courthouse on West Trade Street and the original Philadelphia Church. Known for his integrity and workmanship, Harty left a lasting imprint on our city's foundations.

Now, we have the opportunity to preserve his memory and craftsmanship by restoring his final resting place. Your donation will go directly toward the careful repair and preservation of the Harty family plot and box tomb, ensuring this vital piece of Charlotte’s history is not lost.
